VirtualDub is a video capture/processing utility Windows platforms. VirtualDub is mainly geared toward processing AVI files, although it can read (not write) MPEG-1 and also handle sets of BMP images. Use VirtualDub to create stills of your film.

To create stills of your video:
  1. Create a new folder titled 'Images'
  2. Import video into VirtualDub (only .avi files)
  3. File > Export > Image Sequence...
    • Filename: images
    • Filename suffix: .png (will change when you select output format)
    • Directory: select where you will save your images
    • Output format: .png
    • Select: OK

* Remember, you must create a new folder as a place to save your still video images.

Once you have exported your Image Sequence:
  1. Open the folder containing the images
  2. Highlight/ select every second image
  3. Delete every second image

* You don't need every image to create smooth movements in your animation.
